Guest Essay/Review Submission Q/A
Q: Where do I send an essay or review?
A: Please email it to michelea[AT]absolutetrouble.com and include Bebop Musings in the subject line (I get a lot of spam.) I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. I run other sites in addition to this one and I have a family and a job with deadlines; depending on how hectic my life is at any given point, it may take me a while to get back to you.
Q: Can I use pictures?
A: Yes, but please include them as URL links so I can download and save them to my own server. I’m leery about file attachments for obvious reasons. If you don’t have web space, you can always upload pictures to free image hosting services like Photobucket.
Q: Are there any rules for an essay or review?
A: No rules, but please make sure what you send is spell-checked and ready for uploading. It doesn’t have to be perfect — I understand many fans aren’t native English-speakers, that there are differences in translations, and that to err with typos is human — but I don’t have time to correct major errors in grammar or check punctuation and spelling. HTML-formatted submissions are especially appreciated.
Q: Can I write about anything?
A: As long as it relates to the Cowboy Bebop series and/or movie and is in keeping with the spirit of the site, then yes.
Q: Do my opinions have to be the same as yours?
A: Nope.
Q: Is there a size limit for an essay or review?
A: No, but if it’s really, really long, it might be a good idea to break it up for easier reading.
Q: Will you reject my essay/review if you don’t like it or don’t agree with it?
A: It depends. This is a personal site, not an open fandom community, and its content reflects my general view of the series. What’s most important, as far as I’m concerned, is that statements, opinions, and speculation should be supported with solid evidence from the sessions, the movie, and/or interviews from the creative team. If you do this, and send me something that isn’t a mess to try and read, then there shouldn’t be any problems.

I don’t have any fully formed essays written yet, but I think a relevant topic might be the Titan Wars. Gren and Vicious both served in these battles, each taking different views from their experience. Volaju is yet another character with a haunted past in this series. I’ll try to write something up if its worthwhile.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like a great idea to me. It’s always interesting to speculate on what Vicious was doing in the Titan Wars to begin with, as well as why he chose Gren to be the fall guy. And yes, Vincent Volaju is a character that fits well within the themes of CB. He deserves a little love too. It would be interesting to explore what similarities Spike, Vincent, and Vicious had, or even look at the Spike/Electra and Vincent/Faye situation, and how Vicious and Julia played into the storyline of the movie. Neither are mentioned directly, but are referred to obliquely. Julia more so than Vicious, but when Spike says something about needing to see him (Vincent) once last time, I always thought it was also a reference to Vicious.
I hope you’ll find something to write about.

Hey, nice site:), i really enjoy reading your analysis michelle..
Now about Knocking on Heaven’s door, there is one guy ( MartyScoresEasy) who debates that the movie is actually spike’s dream and Vincent Volaju symbolizes “old spike” (without fear, without julia) and how he deals with his old self, regret, past.
Here is the link, the thread goes onfrom 2003 to 2007 with alot of comments, debat etc.. REALLY INTERESTING.
I can’t contact the guy because i can’t verify my account on imdb…but if anyone else can. It would be interesting if he could post his analasys here as he is the first to come up with the dream thing.

Just checked out the analysis back in 2007 and I had it bookmarked. It’s more or less an interesting take on the movie. Still alright to post up an analysis on Knocking on Heaven’s Door? I had maybe one or two for them.
